Audiobook Production

Narration
recorded to be
heard, not fixed.

Professional audiobook production in Los Angeles and Boston. Narration, punch-and-roll editing, mastering, and ACX/Audible-compliant delivery, engineered by people who record voices for a living. This is what we do.

Live Narration Session — Booth A
What's Included

Four stages. One studio.

Every audiobook that comes through soundBOX moves through the same disciplined process. No outsourced editing, no guessing on delivery specs.

01

Narration Recording

Directed or self-directed sessions in acoustically treated booths, with an engineer monitoring levels, room tone, and performance consistency across every chapter.

02

Punch & Roll Editing

Clean pickups edited in place, breath and mouth-noise management, and chapter-by-chapter continuity so nothing sounds stitched together.

03

Mastering & QC

Loudness-matched, noise-floor-checked, and run through a full quality-control pass before a single file leaves the building.

04

ACX / Audible Delivery

Files delivered to spec. RMS, peak, noise floor, and room tone requirements met on the first submission, not the third resubmission.

Why It Matters

A professional studio for a professional audiobook .

Many ACX rejections aren't performance problems, they're room problems. Here's what changes when the room is built for this.

soundBOX Studio

  • Acoustically treated booth, measured and tuned
  • Engineer monitoring live for noise floor and consistency
  • Punch-and-roll fixes happen in the session, not after
  • Mastering and QC pass before delivery
  • First-submission ACX compliance

DIY/non-treated space

  • Untreated room, inconsistent reflections
  • No second set of ears during the read
  • Pickups and continuity caught in post, if at all
  • Self-mastered, self-QC'd
  • Frequent resubmission cycles
Boston / Cambridge

Our Boston location was built around audiobooks.

While every soundBOX location handles audiobook work, our Boston/Cambridge studio specializes in long-form audiobook production, publisher-facing workflows, multi-week narrator schedules, and ACX delivery built into the room from day one.

If you're a publisher, narrator, or rights holder needing to record on the East Coast, this is the fastest path from manuscript to a compliant, mastered audiobook.

Frequently Asked

Before you book

How much does audiobook recording cost in LA? +
Cost depends on manuscript length, narrator, and whether you need directed sessions or self-directed booth time. Reach out with a page or word count and we'll put together an accurate quote,no generic per-finished-hour guess.
Is the studio ACX-compliant? +
Yes. Every session is recorded and mastered to ACX/Audible technical specifications (RMS, peak level, and noise floor) and checked before delivery so files pass on first submission.
Do you handle editing and mastering, or just recording? +
Both. Punch-and-roll editing, noise cleanup, mastering, and a full QC pass are included as part of the audiobook production process, not a separate add-on.
Can I bring my own narrator, or do you provide one? +
Either. Bring your own narrator and we'll record, edit, and master the project, or let us know the genre and tone you're looking for and we can help source narration talent.
What's the typical turnaround time? +
Turnaround depends on manuscript length and studio availability. Most single-narrator audiobooks move from first session to delivered, ACX-ready files within a few weeks. We'll give you a realistic timeline once we know the scope.
